Residential Student Care Process

The purpose of the Residential Student Care Process is to connect students who have experienced some type of crisis with resources that promote their health, well-being, and success as a student. When there is concern that a student may need support, minimally a member of the REHS team will check in and provide resources with the student through Care Follow-Up. If a significant incident has occurred, a full-time staff member will offer to meet with the student to review resources and to support reintegration into the community in a Care Meeting.

Pack Up. Pitch In.

Pack Up. Pitch In. is a division-wide effort to reduce residence hall waste during move-in and move-out periods. By increasing the visibility and capacity of recycling options at busy times of year, Pack Up. Pitch In. diverts a large amount of materials from landfills. We encourage students to pack up undesired room items and turn them into valuable resources. Large items and appliances should never be placed into dumpsters!

Pack Up. Pitch In. for 2026 Move-Out will run from April 1st to May 5th

Spring Break 2025

2026-27 Incoming Student Housing

Welcome to MSU! We are excited to be your home for the next two years. MSU has a two-year live-on requirement to support your academic success; studies show students who live on campus for two years are more likely to graduate.

Each neighborhood provides you the opportunity to live, dine, study and find your own Spartan community. So, no matter where you live on-campus, you have access to resources to help you find success at MSU!

Spring Semester Housing

The following is Spring 2026 housing information for incoming, transfer and current MSU students.

Incoming Spring First-Year Students

As you prepare to begin at Michigan State University this spring semester, we’re excited to share information about spring on-campus housing with you!

2026-27 On-Campus Housing Sign-Up for Second Year+ Students

Current on-campus residents in their second year or beyond who are interested in an on-campus apartment at University Village or 1855 Place, a residence hall apartment, single room in Owen Hall, or a double room in select residence halls will complete the 2nd Year+ Application in their My Housing account. The application will be open October 7 through October 23, 2025.

We recognize the high demand for on-campus apartments and single rooms, and unfortunately, not all upper-level students who apply will be able to secure their desired space.

Spartan Navigator

Spartan Navigator supports our second-year students outside of the classroom. Students face new pressures in the second year of college, including social changes, expectations of leadership, major fit/major changes and career pressures.

Spartan Navigator is here to help you work through all of these challenges through our various academic and social initiatives.

The Spartan Navigator program is designed for second-year students to continue to foster a sense of belonging at MSU by helping students engage with each other and get involved in the community.

First-Year Roommates at MSU

A big part of the college experience is living with a roommate! All incoming Spartans will have a roommate during their first year at Michigan State. As part of the housing assignment process, students can preference to room with a fellow Spartan or be assigned a roommate at random.

No matter who you room with, you’ll likely be spending a lot of time with that person, so have fun getting to know each other!

Below you will find information and answers to the commonly asked questions surrounding roommates at MSU.
