Housing Application Fee

Residence Education and Housing Services requires incoming students to pay a $50 one-time, non-refundable housing application fee. Once the fee is paid, students have access to the housing contract, as well as the housing exception form (if desired). The fee covers a student for all the years they attend MSU.

Students who are not required to live on campus (such as transfer students or graduate students) but wish to apply for on-campus housing, and if housing that meets their needs is available, must pay a $50 one-time, non-refundable housing application fee.

Advance Payment

In addition to the housing application fee, a $175 advance payment is required to reserve your space. This payment will be applied to your semester bill and will reduce your final balance. The advance payment is refundable if the contract is canceled before your arrival. Students should only make this payment once they are certain and committed to attending MSU for the fall semester, as paying early does not provide any advantage.

Review the cancellation policy in the housing contract that specifies what must be met to qualify for cancellation and details of the forfeiture schedule, if applicable.

The housing application fee and advance payment are separate and different payments from the Acceptance Fee (formerly known as the Advanced Enrollment Deposit) collected by the Office of Admissions.

Waivers

Those students with a Student Aid Index of 0 or below will have their housing application fee and advance payment waived by Residence Education and Housing Services. Students receive their Student Aid Index once they complete the FAFSA.
