Campus Resources

MSU offers a variety of educational resources to help the community increase awareness and identify ways to support an inclusive campus. Resources have been created by various programs and departments across the university. The Office of Institutional Diversity and Inclusion maintains an updated list of resources that you can check out here. Specific resources aim to help in with the following:

2025 Check-In Locations

Each neighborhood has its own designated check-in locations where you'll receive your room key and helpful move-in information for the day. Plus, enjoy a meal voucher for your two move-in helpers! These locations will be open August 19-21, 7 a.m. - 7 p.m. For other dates, go to the nearest open Service Center location

Brody Neighborhood

All Brody Halls - Check in at the main Brody Hall building, in the Brody Grotto

Incoming Student Hierarchy of Housing Assignments

When completing your housing preferences, it is important to keep in mind the hierarchy of assignment, meaning some preferences will outweigh others. See below for an explanation of the housing preference hierarchy. Our priority is to maintain roommate groups, given that has been what our Spartans have asked for the most. To do that, you must ensure you fully understand how preferences work.

Graduate Student Housing

Michigan State University's on-campus housing system is primarily home to first- and second-year undergraduate students. Graduate students do have options to live throughout the system, including in Owen Hall or our two on-campus apartment communities, 1855 Place and University Village. 1855 Place also offers options for family housing.

Housing Exceptions

In the fall of 2021, the two-year live-on requirement was reinstated. This means that incoming first-year students must live in on-campus housing for the first four semesters they are enrolled, summer term excluded.

The list below outlines the reasons students may be granted an exception to live off campus. Students who qualify for an exception but want to live on campus do not have to submit an exception. Exceptions are only for required students with a desire to live off campus.
