For the 2026-27 academic year, transfer students are exempt from the two-year live-on requirement and are not required to reside on campus.
On-Campus Housing
For those interested in 2026-27 on-campus housing, the Housing Request Form will be available in My Housing in April 2026. We will house as many students as available space allows.
The form will allow you to indicate your interest in a double, single or apartment space, and you can share your interest in Gender-Inclusive Housing (GIH) in the comments box. Please note, housing rates are different for single and apartment spaces. You will not be able to indicate bathroom preferences or specific roommates. Should space become available, you will be offered that space. While we will honor as many housing preferences as we can, it’s important to note that most housing offers will be in a double room with a roommate.
Once you complete a housing request form, you have no other action to take until we contact you with offer. We will periodically email with updates.
If a space meets your needs, you will pay the one-time, non-refundable $50 housing application fee in your My Housing account (unless you qualify for a fee waiver) to receive access to the housing contract. The fee covers a student for all the years they attend MSU. A $175 advance payment is also required, unless you qualify for a fee waiver. This payment is credited toward your fall semester bill and is refundable if the contract is canceled before July 15.

Off-Campus Housing
Transfer students also are welcome to look at off-campus housing options via MSU’s Off-Campus Housing Website. In addition to housing listings, the website shares resources and tips for signing a lease and living in the Greater Lansing community.
