Housing Options

We are pleased to offer the following housing options for on-campus students.

Gender Inclusive Housing

The Department of Residence Education and Housing Services and the Gender and Sexuality Campus Center are dedicated to providing safe and affirming living environments for all students, including those whose gender identity and/or expression differs from the sex assigned to them at birth.

Decorating Your Room — Spartan Style!

Moving to college and starting a new life away from home is a thrilling experience. It’s also when you get the chance to design your “home away from home.” Your new room is a blank canvas that calls for wall posters, string lights, Polaroid photos, polka dot bedding and other room decorating items that will define your college years at MSU. Feel free to be creative; this is your Spartan space!

Getting Involved

It’s no myth that Michigan State University is a huge place. That’s why it’s a great idea to find your place here and have a network to rely on. One of the best ways to create that is by joining a club or organization here on campus, and you can do this without needing to leave your neighborhood!

Getting To Know Our Staff

Resident Assistant

A resident assistant (RA) is a student staff member who lives in the residence hall and apartment communities and is assigned to a floor or wing. As a peer, an RA serves as a basic source of information and referral help and assists residents in adjusting to campus life. The overall responsibility of an RA is to provide leadership and support to individual residents, residence halls and apartment communities.

Carpet Size Guidelines

Carpet sizes vary by residence hall. Here are guidelines for use when making purchases.

The following is the maximum recommended size carpet for each hall. Rooms in North Neighborhood vary by size and some may require smaller rugs. Some students decide to purchase smaller carpet if they don't intend to cover the room's floor. We encourage everyone to purchase carpeting that has a finished banded edge to prevent tripping, as carpet tape is not allowed in the residence halls.
