University Village and the newly developed 1855 Place are perfect for students searching for more independence while remaining connected to on-campus living. These apartments are steps away from campus resources and buildings while also offering numerous on-site amenities. Residents can enjoy a cup of Starbucks coffee or grab a bite to eat at the Sparty’s Market in 1855 Place before heading out to class.

 

Residence Hall Apartments 

Akers, Case, Holden, Mason/Abbot, Campbell, Gilchrist, Williams and Yakeley halls offer one-bedroom or studio apartments that house one or two people and include a full bathroom with tub and kitchen with a stove or stovetop. A dining plan is not required in these apartments. 

The majority of Residence Hall apartments will have a layout similar to the illustration below, however, some may vary in the North halls.

The newly developed 1855 Place is perfect for students who want to be moments away from campus resources, classes and the Spartan community. With options from one, two or four-bedroom contemporary spaces, there is a perfect apartment for everyone. From students wanting to live alone, with their best friends or with family, residents can enjoy amenities like on-suite laundry, on-site parking, spacious rooms and a Starbucks and Sparty’s Market in the same building!

UNIVERSITY VILLAGE APARTMENTS

University Village is made up of four-bedroom apartments available to students of sophomore status or higher. Residents are located across the street from campus life, award-winning dining services, the Breslin Center and much more. University Village is the perfect choice for the on-the-go student who wants to live with their best friends while enjoying the independence of a home and proximity to classes and campus resources.

FAMILY HOUSING AT 1855 PLACE

Nestled just across the street from the Breslin Student Events Center and numerous campus resources, 1855 Place offers one and two-bedroom contemporary family apartments. Enjoy the many amenities of apartment-living in these newly developed spaces with on-site parking. Residents can also enjoy Sparty's Market for groceries and Starbucks in the same building! Designated green space, a playground and plenty of common outdoor areas offer the perfect setting for studying, picnicking or a quick game of catch with friends and family.

Wonders Hall

Wonders Hall is home to the CoRe engineering program, the Army ROTC program at MSU and a Sparty’s Express.

Fun fact: Wonders Hall is named after MSU benefactors Wallace and Grace Wonders. Wallace received his Bachelor of Science degree from MSU in 1902.

Hubbard Hall

Hubbard Hall is home exclusively to first-year students and is a well-known landmark among Spartans, recognized as the tallest building in East Lansing. Its central location offers easy access to the East Lansing community and local stores. Additionally, the hall features a Sparty’s Café for residents to enjoy.

Hubbard Hall Location

Akers Hall

Akers Hall exclusively houses first year students and is known by Spartans for its completely unique, apartment-like living experience that features two-bedroom suites, a separate living/study area and a bathroom shared only by suite occupants. The hall is home to The Edge dining hall.

Fun fact: Akers Hall is named after Forest H. Akers, an MSU student from the early 1900s.

Holmes Hall

Holmes Hall is known by Spartans for housing all classrooms, laboratories and faculty/administrative offices for the Lyman Briggs College. Touted as the largest residence hall on campus with more than 1,250 residents, Holmes Hall is the perfect place to meet other students, make new friends and be fully immersed in your education. Holmes Hall offers Lyman Briggs and Honors College living-learning options. The hall is also home to the Holmes dining hall and a Sparty’s Refresh.

Owen Hall

Owen Hall is a favorite to both underclassmen and graduate students. All rooms in Owen Hall are single rooms. The hall is home to a Sparty’s Refresh and the allergen-free Thrive dining hall. Students living in Owen Hall have the option to choose a dining plan, but this is not required.

Fun fact: Owen Hall is named after Floyd Owen, class of 1902, who provided part of the funding to build the hall. It was the first co-ed hall with male and female students living in their respective wings.

McDonel Hall

McDonel Hall is centrally located on campus and serves as the home of the First-Year Residential Business Community (RBC). Its proximity to the Broad College of Business makes it a popular choice among business majors. Inside McDonel, you'll find Sparty's Store, the River Trail Engagement Center, and the nearby Thrive Dining Hall in Owen. This makes McDonel a lively and convenient community for both new and returning Spartans!

Shaw Hall

Shaw Hall is known by Spartans for being conveniently located at the heart of campus and across the street from the CATA bus station. The hall is home to The Vista, a newly renovated residential dining facility.

Fun fact: Shaw Hall is named for Robert Sidey Shaw, MSU’s 11th president who led the University through the Great Depression.
