Living on campus is the best way to make the most of your experience at MSU. When you live on, you have plenty of choices for your living environment and activities.
Alcohol-free halls, floors or rooms are spaces in which residents agree that alcoholic beverages will not be brought into the area, even by persons 21 years of age or older.
All residence halls and apartments are campus are smoke-free. Smoking is prohibited in any Residential or apartment space. Smoking is not permitted within 25 feet of the building’s entrances, outdoor air intakes, and operable windows, decks or balconies.
We realize that some students are allergic to smoke and we do our best to assign students of the same smoking preference together.
Quiet Halls or Floors
For students desiring an atmosphere where studying is primary, designated quiet halls or floors have quiet hours, generally between 8 p.m. and 10 a.m.
Flexible housing is an option that primarily aims to benefit students who wish to live with family members; students who have disabilities that may require them to live with a caretaker; or students who simply feel more comforatble living in a mixed gender environment.
MSU offers flexible housing options within all residential living facilites on campus, including residential living/learning communities. However, requests to live in single-gender communities/floors by individuals who identify as the opposite sex will not be granted. Students can request a Flexible Housing arrangment on a limited, opt-in basis only. Students who choose to live in Flexible Housing in a single room will be charged the single room rate.
For students wishing to live in a Flexible Housing arrangement with a roomate, students may choose to be randomly housed with another Flexible Housing student or may identify another student who has agreed to live in the Flexible Housing arrangement.
Students interested in signing up for flexible housing must contact the Housing Assignments Office at firstname.lastname@example.org or 1-877-9 LIVE ON (5483 66).
Housing For Transgender Students
Supportive living arrangements are available in the residnece halls for students identifying as LBGTQ+. Because of limitations in the available housing options, there is no guarantee that all of a student's preferences can be met, but we are highly committed to working with the student to find the best accomodations possible.
