We’re excited to announce that, following a successful pilot program in South Neighborhood, we are now offering all residents a safe and convenient way to dispose of hazardous batteries. Whether you're looking to get rid of old batteries from electronics or vape pens, this initiative ensures that these items are safely discarded to help prevent potential hazards.
While we accept all types of batteries, our main focus is on lithium batteries, which are commonly found in rechargeable devices, loose batteries from electronics, and vape pens*. These items can pose significant risks if not disposed of correctly, so we encourage everyone to bring any questionable batteries to our drop-off locations.
*Please note that only batteries from devices, not the devices themselves, are eligible for disposal in this program.
Where to Drop Off Your Batteries
Residents can drop off their batteries at any of the nine Neighborhood Primary Service Centers. Here’s how it works: simply inform the Service Center Representative at the desk that you have batteries for disposal. They will provide you with bags to safely place the batteries in, and they will then ensure the batteries are placed in the designated container for proper, environmentally responsible disposal.
Why It Matters
Proper disposal of batteries is crucial in reducing the risk of fires, which can occur when batteries are not disposed of properly. We greatly appreciate your participation in this program, as it helps create a safer community for everyone.
This program is made possible through our partnership with MSU Environmental Health and Safety and the MSU Surplus Store and Recycling Center teams. Together, we’re working to keep our neighborhoods safe and environmentally responsible.
Thank you for doing your part in helping us manage hazardous waste safely!
MSU is a tobacco-free and smoke-free campus. Use of vape pens on campus is not permitted, however, we recognize students may possess vape pens. We will collect these without question to ensure proper disposal.
