Preparing for Winter Break 2019

As we near the end of the semester, we want to give you a few reminders on how to prepare your living space for the winter break. While you do not need to move your belongings from your room, you do need to leave the space in a safe and sanitary condition. If you are not returning for spring semester, you must complete a vacate form at My Housing on liveon.msu.edu

Prior to vacating your living space for winter break, you must:

  • Shut all windows completely
  • Close window blinds
  • Remove perishable food items
  • Take out your trash and recycling to prevent pests
  • Lock your door
  • Leave your heat on. Do not turn it off.

You must be out of your room by 8:00 p.m. on Friday, December 13. If you need to stay an extra day or two OR if you need to move back into your room a day or two early in January, go to My Housing at liveon.msu.edu to fill out a late stay or early arrival form.

Our Residence Education and Housing Services (REHS) Facilities team will be conducting annual room safety checks over winter break. We will be visiting each on-campus room and performing an inspection of your MSU-provided furnishings.

Safety checks will focus on:

  • Loftable beds – heights, stable bars, safety rails, pins
  • Heating units – functionality
  • Suite bathrooms –active leaks from any fixtures

The facilities team is using these checks to ensure your room is comfortable and safe as we approach the winter months. Any issues will be documented, and we will do our best to address them while you are away. Some issues may need to be resolved in January.

If you have items that need immediate maintenance, please complete an online request at liveon.msu.edu/maintenance. Should you have any questions about the safety check in your hall, please reach out to your Facilities Manager at liveon.msu.edu.

If you have any questions, please see the Resident Assistant on your floor.

Have a safe and happy winter break!
