What to Bring

This list is a summary of items that may be useful in your room. Check back throughout the summer as we update this list and be sure to check your mailbox in August for the Move-In Guide.

What's Included in your Room 

  • Loftable bed 
  • Twin XL mattress 
  • Dresser 
  • Desk 
  • Desk chair 
  • Small trash can
  • Window blinds 
  • Overhead lights 

What's Included in your Hall 

  • Linen pack — two white sheets and two towels that can be exchanged weekly at your hall service desk 
  • Vacuum check-out 
  • Broom check-out 
  • Toilet paper and trash bags
  • Community kitchens in each neighborhood 

What to Bring: Essentials  

  • Personal identification and MSU Student ID 
  • Clothing
  • Towels 
  • Personal toiletries — shampoo, conditioner, soap, etc. 
  • Laundry items — basket, detergent, dryer sheets 
  • Hangers 
  • Twin XL bedding — pillow, sheets, blankets 
  • Fan 
  • Charging cables 
  • Cloth face covering

What to Bring: Optional 

  • Small refrigerator — 5 cubic feet or less  
  • Microwave — 750 watts or less
  • Iron and ironing board or clothing steamer 
  • Rug — see carpet-size guidelines
  • Television 
  • Futon
  • Dishes 
  • Cleaning supplies 
  • Gaming systems 
  • Storage cubes 
  • Decorations 

What Not to Bring 

  • Wireless routers — all residence hall rooms have access to MSU Wi-Fi; personal routers interfere with the signal
  • Air conditioner — air conditioners only permitted for medical reasons
  • Indoor grills or panini press 
  • Air Fryers 
  • Instant Pots 
  • Toaster oven 
  • Dry erase boards (only allowed inside rooms, not on door)
  • Hot plates 
  • Candles 
  • Electric scooters, electric bikes, etc. (not allowed in any MSU building)
