We understand the health and safety reasons for the state's request that we — and other Michigan colleges and universities — adjust our spring semester plans. MSU is working with state and local health leaders to comply with that request.
With this new guidance, President Stanley announced that we would follow these requests and that no undergraduate classes, regardless of mode of instruction, will meet prior to Tuesday, January 19, and no in-person undergraduate classes will begin prior to Monday, January 25.
With that being said, our spring move-in period will be pushed back to Friday, January 15, through Monday, January 18. Students and families should make every possible attempt to delay their arrival, and maintain enhanced physical distancing at home before they travel. Students who are truly unable to alter travel plans can request an early arrival for the January 6-14 period in their My Housing account, subject to approval.
This year, move in is going to look a little different than previous years. Please review the changes that we have made to provide a safe and smooth move-in process for you and your guests.
In an effort to keep the process running smoothly and keep everyone safe, move-in times will be scheduled and limited across campus. This will allow for easier physical distancing and reduce possible congestion.
All students, both returning and new, arriving to campus must sign-up for a move-in time.
Select the correct link below to sign-up for your move-in time
- Bailey and Emmons
- Butterfield and Rather
- Owen and Van Hoosen
Visit your My Housing account if you are unsure of your spring housing assignment. If you need to change your time, you’ll use your confirmation email to go back in, delete your current sign-up and select a new one.
If students are moving to campus for the first time this year, they will need to check-in at the designated service center. Check-in will be low contact, and we ask that only the student visits the service center.
- Case, Wilson, Wonders: North Case Service Center
- Holden: Holden Service Center
- Bailey, Butterfield, Emmons and Rather: Brody Hall Classroom
- Owen, Van Hoosen, McDonel: Owen Service Center
- Holmes: West Holmes Service Center
- Akers: West Akers Service Center
At the service center, students will receive room keys, check-in packet, ID card (if applicable) and meal pass which allows for the student and two guests to pick up a grab-and-go meal from the dining halls.
Because of restrictions due to COVID-19, we ask that you bring no more than two people to assist you in moving into your new space.
Staff will be assisting with traffic control and check-in, but due to safety guidelines, we will not have staff and volunteers unloading vehicles this year.
We suggest packing just enough for the time you’re here on campus this semester, and using items like reusable tubs to help you pack and transport your belongings more efficiently.
While move-in looks different than previous years, we are here to safely welcome you to campus and as always feel free to ask questions to anyone with an RHS name tag. Please continue to check our MSU email for potential updates to the move-in process. See you soon, Spartans!
