Laundry facilities are located in each residence hall building, including University Village and 1855 Place apartments.
Laundry machines are available for students to use at no additional cost. Laundry supplies may be purchased at select Sparty's locations.
Laundry How-To Tips
- Check for Loose Items: Before loading your laundry, be sure to check for any loose items in your clothing.
- Read Clothing Tags: Take a moment to read the tags on your clothing, as some items may not be suitable for drying.
- Mindful Soap Usage: Use only 1/4 cup of liquid detergent or 1 pod per load.
- Temperature Settings: When in doubt, opt for lower temperature settings.
- Avoid Overloading: Fill washers no more than 3/4 full to ensure proper cleaning. Remember, machines are complimentary.
- Lint Screen/Trap: Clean the lint screen/trap both before and after drying.
- Timely Removal: Set a timer to promptly remove your clothes from the machines once the cycle is complete.
- Plan Accordingly: Plan your laundry schedule around your study routine to avoid any conflicts.

Monitor Your Laundry Using the Speed Queen App
The Speed Queen app allows you to monitor the availability and status of laundry machines in your residence hall, helping you save time and avoid unnecessary trips to the laundry room.
With the app, you can check machine availability before heading to the laundry room, view the remaining cycle time for washers and dryers, and receive a notification when your laundry is finished (if notifications are enabled). This makes it easy to plan your time and return only when your laundry is ready.
Getting Started
- Download the Speed Queen app on your mobile device
- Create an account using your MSU email address.
- Add Your Location
- When prompted for a location pin, enter: SPARTY
- Locate Your Laundry Room
- Use the app to find your residence hall laundry room and view available machines.

Select your wash or dry cycle and press the Start button on the machine.
