Owen Hall Changes

As sign up season begins for the 2019-2020 school year at MSU, we want to let you know about some exciting changes happening at Owen Hall. Most importantly, Owen Hall will be transitioning into single-room housing only – this means that all residents will share their bathroom with only one other resident in the connecting single.

Additionally, Owen Hall will be offering extended housing contract terms for students who need to move into campus a bit earlier than the traditional move-in date. This new term will begin two weeks before the traditional residence hall starting date, include winter break, and end one week later than the traditional residence hall ending date. For the 2019-2020 school year, the contract will last from August 10, 2019, until May 9, 2020.

Owen Hall will also become a board-optional hall starting fall semester 2019. If students do prefer to purchase a dining plan, they can buy an unlimited dining plan or an off-campus plan. Either way, students will have options available at the Riverwalk Market which will transition into a retail Sparty’s Café model like those in Brody and Hubbard Halls. The Market will have more on-the-go options and is working on a plan to incorporate allergen-friendly options.

In addition to all these changes, Owen Hall will continue to offer convenient amenities including weekly housekeeping, a community kitchen, study lounges, and utilities like laundry and WiFi. Parking is also available for all residents of Owen Hall and is currently located directly across the street.

Owen Hall has such a great location in the heart of MSU’s campus near several large academic programs, like the MSU College of Law and the Business College Complex. We hope these new changes encourage students to take advantage of the convenience of living in Owen Hall while getting the opportunity to live independently and with increased flexibility.

2019-20 room and board rates will be approved by the MSU Board of Trustees in April 2019. We anticipate the 2019-20 rates being similar to the current Williams Hall rate structure with additional fees for extended contracts
