The wait is over, Rock the Block is here!
Are you looking to reserve a few suites in South for you and your friends? Or maybe a block of rooms on the same floor in Brody? With Rock the Block, signing up with your friends is easy! You've heard the buzz, now let's go over the details.
Register to join us at the Breslin Center on Tuesday, March 10, and with the help of our team, you and your group can block off a series of rooms in a residence hall to live together in 2026-27.
Here’s what you need to know for Rock the Block 2026:
- Create Your Roommate Group
- Log into My Housing and select "Sign-Up for Rock the Block and Manage Roommate Group."
- The Group Leader will need each member’s name and MSU email address.
- Select an Arrival Time
- After the group is created, the Group Leader will select the group’s arrival time from the available options by selecting "Sign-Up for Rock the Block Arrival Time" on the My Housing home page.
- If the group is registered more than once, we will remove any extra appointments. Only the Group Leader’s selected appointment will remain.
- Accept Your Group Invitation
- Each roommate must log in to their My Housing account and select “Sign-Up for Rock the Block and Manage Roommate Group” to accept or decline the roommate group invitation.
- Attend Rock the Block on March 10
- Only the Group Leader needs to attend, other group members may join but the Group Leader must be there.
- The Group Leader must arrive during the specific time slot they selected.
- During the appointment, the Group Leader will choose rooms for all group members.
Additional Information
- Arrival times run from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.
- Groups may not arrive early or line up before their scheduled time.
- The time listed is your arrival time, not the length of the room-selection process.
- We aim to make the process quick, but please expect some time for room selection and final assignment by a housing specialist.
Landon Hall
Due to high interest in Landon Hall, each Rock the Block group will be asked to indicate whether they would like to be considered for room selection in the building. Groups that express interest will be randomly selected to receive access to choose rooms in Landon Hall during the event.
Your group will be notified on Monday, March 9, whether you are eligible to select rooms in Landon Hall during Rock the Block.
If your group is not selected for Landon Hall, you may still participate in Rock the Block and select rooms in any of the other available halls.
Rock the Block Available Halls
The following halls will be open for selection at Rock the Block. Please review the list and have a few options of halls you are interested in as some halls may fill up before the event is over. Once a room is selected at Rock the Block, it is final and cannot be changed.

Questions?
What do I have to do to be eligible for Rock the Block?
To be eligible, you must be a current first-year student, and make sure you sign your housing contract in My Housing prior to joining a Rock the Block roommate group.
When and where is Rock the Block?
Rock the Block will take place Tuesday, March 10, from 11 a.m. – 7 p.m. at the Breslin Center. When you complete the registration form, you will select a sign-up time window.
When can I arrive?
Groups can arrive up to 30 minutes before their scheduled time to check in. However, groups are not allowed to form lines or arrive any earlier. Because of the sign-up times, there is no advantage to arriving early.
What will I get to do at Rock the Block?
At this event, you and your friends will get to block off a series of rooms in a residence hall so you can have the perks of living with your close friends for the 2026-27 academic year.
Who needs to attend Rock the Block?
The group leader (the person who created the Rock the Block group) needs to attend and select the spaces for everyone in the group. If the group leader cannot attend, choose another member to lead the group. Other group members are welcome to attend, but it’s not required.
How many people can be in a RTB roommate group?
RTB roommate groups can have between 6-16 students. If your group has fewer than 6 people, you can create a standard roommate group and select a space during the general selection later in March.
What information does the Group Leader need for the event?
The Group Leader should have a list of preferred halls for your group, and who wants to be assigned in rooms together.
What if I don't have a roommate group for Rock the Block?
If you can’t make it, don’t worry! You can still select your roommates and suitemates, subject to space availability, during general sign-up. Or book a meeting with a housing specialist to go over your options.
Can incoming students or students living off campus be in our RTB roommate group?
No. RTB roommate groups must consist of current first-year students who are living on campus and have a signed housing contract.
What if me or a potential roommate is participating in single room sign-up?
Rock the Block roommate groups must be created by March 6. If you or someone in your group selects a single room during that selection period, they can be removed from the roommate group before the Rock the Block event.
What if I’m in a Living-Learning Community (LLC)?
Rock the Block is for selecting general, non-LLC rooms. Students interested in second-year Living-Learning Community (LLC) housing will work directly with their LLC, who will submit assignment lists to the Housing Assignments Office.
What if I need additional sign-up support?
If you have more questions, you can book a 20-minute meeting with a housing specialist at https://go.msu.edu/housing-appt. You can choose a virtual or in-person appointment. You will need to be logged into Spartan365 with your MSU NetID and password to see the calendar.
How do I contact someone if I have more questions?
As always, the Housing Assignments Office can be reached at liveon@msu.edu or by phone at 517-884-5483.
