Educational Resources

Numerous inclusive programs are available throughout MSU's colleges, departments, and neighborhoods, all with the purpose of fostering a more inclusive campus community. These programs are constantly evolving, and are meant to help students, staff, and faculty engage with important DEI topics and provide spaces for productive discourse surrounding those topics. There are two programs offered specifically to MSU students:

MSU Dialogues

MSU Dialogues stands as an intergroup dialogue program designed for students, faculty, and staff. This initiative serves as a learning experience, uniting individuals from diverse identity groups for an extended period. Through this program, participants aim to foster a deeper understanding of both our shared experiences and our differences. By engaging in MSU Dialogues, individuals can enhance their personal awareness and recognize the influence of their identities. The program encourages exploration of the societal inequalities that exist and their impacts. Together, participants explore collaborative ways to promote greater equity and justice for all, preparing them to thrive in the complexities of a diverse society.

MRULE/ICA Program

The MRULE/ICA Program offers a grassroots learning experience that welcomes all students. The primary focus is to cultivate an inclusive and socially engaged community, embracing the richness of our diverse backgrounds. The vision of the MRULE/ICA program is to create a university campus where students benefit from a globally integrated curriculum, and intercultural engagement is not only cherished but also actively practiced in daily life

Fall and Spring Student Activism Summits

During each Fall and Spring semester, the REHS DEI unit partners with student organizations to host activism summits. These summits provide students with a valuable opportunity to interact with crucial social issues and emphasize the advocacy for marginalized individuals.

DEI as a Part of Professional Development in REHS

DEI training courses play a vital role in the professional development of all REHS team members. Both professional staff and student employees, including Resident Assistants (RAs), actively participate in DEI workshops and trainings. Notably, the RIDE dialogues are prioritized, emphasizing the reframing and questioning of implicit biases as an integral part of the Residential Learning Model, which aims to foster a more inclusive campus environment.

Student Life & Engagement Resources

The Division of Student Life and Engagement (SLE) also has many relevant resources for students to help foster an inclusive campus community. Check them out below!

MSU Diversity Equity & Inclusion Plan

In line with the entire campus community's dedication to DEI, MSU has developed an official Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) plan. This comprehensive plan was carefully crafted by the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Steering Committee, consisting of 26 experts from MSU.

To ensure inclusivity, the committee conducted 53 listening sessions, engaging over 400 participants from various stakeholder groups across the university. The committee diligently examined and compared 16 DEI plans from both the Association of American Universities and Big 10 institutions. Utilizing this valuable input, MSU's Strategic DEI Plan was formulated. If you wish to explore the entire plan, learn more about the committee, or access news updates, you can visit the dedicated webpage.
