2020 Fall Housing Credit Option

For the fall semester 2020, residence hall students will have two options for how long they stay on campus: returning to their permanent residences for the thanksgiving holiday and not returning to campus, or remaining on campus until the semester ends.

This plan is designed to address epidemiologic models that suggest a potential resurgence in COVID-19 cases in December and give students the opportunity to return to their permanent residences before peak influenza season if they choose.

While the semester may look different than past fall semesters, you are still able to live on-campus and have access to the resources and opportunities on-campus living affords you.

Students may select from one of two options:

  1. Return to their permanent residences for the thanksgiving holiday and not return to campus for the remainder of the fall 2020 semester
  2. Remain on campus until the end of the fall 2020 semester

MSU will offer a credit to eligible residence hall students who choose to return to their permanent residences for the thanksgiving holiday and not return to campus for the remainder of the fall 2020 semester.

If a student makes that choice, the credit will be applied toward the student's fall 2020 room and board costs. The amount of the credit will vary by room type and by dining plan.

In order to receive the credit, students must take the following actions:

  • Submit the thanksgiving credit form before 11:59 p.m. p.m. on August 5, 2020.
    • The form can be accessed from the student's My Housing account.
  • Complete the check-out process for the fall 2020 semester on or before November 25, 2020.

If you have both a housing and a dining plan you will receive credit for both plans. Credit amounts are below by room and dining plan type.

Students who receive institutional funds for their fall 2020 semester room and board (including, without limitation, student-athletes, Spartan Advantage students, Alumni Distinguished Scholars, Residential Advisers, and Intercultural Aides), along with 1855 Place and University Village residents, are not eligible for the credit.
