Residential Learning Model 

Residence Education and Housing Services believes students’ on-campus living experience plays a crucial role in their success at Michigan State University. With this in mind, the Residential Learning Model (RLM) was created with the goal of aiding resident assistants (RAs) in strategically facilitating learning and growth to their students, ultimately contributing to the students’ overall Spartan experience.

Living-learning Communities and Residential Colleges 

Michigan State University's residential colleges and living-learning, academic and special interest programs allow students who share similar academic interests or interests in multi-cultural living experiences to live together in a designated residence hall or on a particular residence hall floor.

Residential Care and Community Expectations 

The Residential Care and Community Expectations team oversees, supports, and provides training on the campus housing conduct system.

Residence Hall Rules 

The university’s number one priority is your safety and academic success. For these reasons there are regulations specific to the residence halls and campus in general that help support these priorities. You can find these rules in the On-campus Housing Handbook (PDF). If you have any questions, we encourage you to contact your resident assistant.

Housing Options

Living on campus is the best way to make the most of your experience at MSU. From quiet and substance-free floors to flexible housing, when you live on, you have plenty of choices for your living environment and activities.

Community Spaces

While at MSU, your residence hall is your home away from home. Our residence halls are grouped into five neighborhoods that share resources and common spaces. 

Service Centers 

Your residence hall service desk is your one-stop shop for check-in and check-out, picking up mail and packages, grabbing a temporary key or access card, exchanging linen packets, checking out a vacuum or broom, and much more! 

Each neighborhood has at least one primary service center open 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

In-Hall Health Resources

Our halls provide access to health-related resources, such as sharps' containers.

Laundry 

Laundry facilities are located in each residence hall building, including University Village and 1855 Place apartments. Van Hoosen apartment residents may use the Owen Hall laundry room.

Laundry facilities are free for students to use. Laundry supplies may be purchased at select Sparty's locations.
