Background

As outlined in the 2008 and 2013 MSU Strategic Plans for RHS, it has been determined that the buildings in Spartan Village Apartments have exceeded their life expectancy and have become very expensive to maintain and repair. While the buildings that are currently occupied remain safe for the time being, in order for us to continue to deliver outstanding Spartan experiences to our residents, we are evaluating our replacement options and determining how to move forward with the closure.

We recognize that Spartan Village Apartments provides family housing for members of our University community, however there has been a significant shift in the population we serve. While the demand for family housing has declined over the years, the need for single student housing—including graduate and international students—has increased.  The University maintains its commitment to family housing, but with changing demographics, we are reassessing our specific needs.
