There Is Still Time To Live On Next Year!

Choosing where to live next year is a big decision. If you have not decided yet, there is still time for you to secure your on-campus home for next year. Whether you are looking for a room or suite in a residence hall, flexible housing which allows you to select a roommate without regard to gender, or the independence of living in an apartment with your friends, Residence Education and Housing Services makes the decision easy for you! We offer a variety of housing options available on Michigan State University’s beautiful campus. You can sign up for a space now by contacting the Housing Assignments Office at 517-884-5483, liveon@msu.edu, or stopping by the office at C-101 Wilson Hall during normal business hours.

With the access, convenience, value, flexibility, numerous options, amenities and community that comes with on-campus living, students who Live On at MSU get the ultimate Spartan experience. Whether it’s tailgating in your backyard as you cheer on the Spartans, grabbing a bite to eat in your pajamas before class, or walking right downstairs to check out the resources available in your Neighborhood Engagement Center, on-campus housing puts students right in the heart of campus life at MSU. It really does not get any better than that!

We Want What’s Best For You

Living on campus is recommended for at least two years—not only because Living On at MSU is awesome—but because research shows that students who do get better grades, are more involved in campus activities, have more interaction with faculty, feel more connected to the campus community and are more likely to graduate on time.

Fall 2014 Sign Up Schedule

Online sign-up for fall 2014 has now closed. Please contact the Housing Assignments Office to reserve your on-campus housing space for the Fall 2014/Spring 2015 academic year.

Oct. 16 - April 1: Online sign up. Pick any available space in a residence hall or apartment on campus.

April 1: Online sign up closed. Contact the Housing Assignments Office to sign up.

Before You Sign Up

You can prepare for online sign up now by doing the following:

  • Review the On-Campus Housing Catalog. With all of the different housing options at MSU, make sure you know what is available on campus. Be mindful that while you can request a room change once you have signed up for a space, your specific request may not be guaranteed.
  • When reviewing your options, be sure to consider all the facts. Use our Housing Costs Comparison Worksheet to compare your options and figure out what works best for you.
  • Get your computer ready by making sure you have Internet Explorer or Firefox installed. Use Internet Explorer when you log-in to the housing system to sign up. The sign-up system is not compatible with Safari or Google Chrome.

Note: If you have a newer Mac running OSX Lion, your computer is not compatible with Internet Explorer and you will need to use Firefox or sign up for housing using another computer.

  •  If selecting a roommate, make sure you have their information. In order to select a roommate, you must have your desired roommate’s first and last name, housing ID number (found when they log into iLiveOn) and dining plan choice.

Note: If you would like to request a new or transfer student for a roommate, please contact the Housing Assignments Office and provide the name and PID or birthday of your intended roommate.

  • Before you sign up for a space, be sure that you understand that the Housing Contract is a legally binding document. You can cancel within 14 days of signing the Housing Contract by logging into iLiveOn.  Be sure to read the On-Campus Housing Handbook: Terms and Conditions. If you have questions, please contact the Housing Assignments Office at 517-884-LIVE (5483) or liveon@msu.edu.

Thinking of Moving to Another Residence Hall or Apartment?

If you are currently living in a residence hall and are interested in moving to University Village apartments, please note the following:

  • Onsite sign up will take place Oct. 16, 2013 from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. in the University Village Community Center. You will need to submit a signed housing contract in order to reserve a space. You may submit one contract for yourself and up to three additional contracts for your requested roommates to hold a maximum of one four-unit apartment. Space will not be held for students who do not have a complete and signed 2014-2015 Housing Contract.
  • If you receive an assigned space in University Village, you will have two weeks to pay a $690 deposit to hold your space. This deposit will be applied to your first month’s rent/semester payment. You will receive more information concerning the deposit if you receive an assignment.
  •  If you do not receive an assignment, you will have the option to be placed on a waitlist. You will need to submit a signed Housing Contract in order to hold a space on the waitlist
